The Crawford County Youth Hockey Association (CCYHA) offers the following divisions:
ADM HOCKEY
The American Development Model (ADM) is a national approach to developing hockey players. It helps every child have a better chance to succeed. By using USA Hockey’s ADM, CCYHA will enhance skill development, create more skilled players, and improve player retention. The ADM serves as a guide to help kids achieve their full potential.
8U – ADM HOCKEY (Age 8 & Under)
CCYHA’s 8U – ADM Hockey is for boys and girls aged 8 and under. We suggest players have already taken part in Learn To Play and/or Little Pens programs.
This hockey program offers a fun and safe environment where players can learn basic skating and hockey skills. The goal is to build movement skills, athleticism, and basic hockey techniques like skating, puck control, passing, shooting, body contact, and goal tending. It’s an important time to lay the groundwork for advanced skills and to understand the game, including rules and teamwork.
The program includes practice sessions with various stations and cross-ice games to help players improve and enjoy the game. Players get to practice more, which boosts their skills and love for hockey. Drills are aimed at enhancing different skills and situations, giving players more time with the puck.
The Flames 8U-ADM Season has 2 to 3 on-ice sessions each week (50 to 60 hours per season), including skating and skill sessions and 8 to 10 cross-ice games or scrimmages. (For those interested in competing outside, please see the 8U-Flames Travel Team below.)
FLAMES TRAVEL HOCKEY
The Crawford County Flames travel teams play in the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL) and are registered through USA Hockey. CCYHA’s goal is to offer teams at the following levels.
8U – FLAMES TRAVEL TEAM (Age 8 & Under)
This program is an extension of the 8U – Flames ADM program and is made for 8U players to have extra practices and compete against other teams in the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL). All players in the 8U-Travel program must join CCYHA’s 8U – ADM program.
Players do not need to try out. Instead, those registered for Flames 8U-Travel Hockey will be evaluated by the coaches during the first 2 to 3 weeks of the Flames 8U-ADM practices to decide if they will be placed on the Blue or White Travel Team.
The Flames 8U-Travel Team season will include 6 extra practices or skill sessions, 8 to 10 Jamborees*, up to 2 travel tournaments, and 1 home tournament.
*A Jamboree is a fun event with quick cross-ice games against teams with similar skills. These events follow the USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) format, which helps players develop their skills in a safe and enjoyable way. Jamborees usually take place on weekends from November to February.
